Aca-Tastic Birthday

VenusdMinorPerforms

Our favoriate Venusians Robin (front and center) and Dolores (fuschia, third from right) recently celebrated birthdays. This photo is not recent, as you can tell from the holiday greenery, but who wants a current photo for their birthday? To celebrate, Venus sang for R&D’s awesome house party. We love house parties.  Are you having one this spring or summer? Give us a shout…we’ll be there before you can say “canapé.” You can email us at venusdminor (at) gmail (dot) com. Or if this is an aca-emergency, call 301-651-3707.

Want to tell us something, or add your name to our mailing list for our next concert? Jot your info here. We promise not to spam you!

Thank you Lubber Run fans!

Well, despite the threat of rain and some actual rain, we all had a fabulous time singing for the packed crowd at Lubber Run ampitheater this past weekend! Thanks again to The Tone Rangers for the invite. Here are a few pics, and we’ll load some more shortly

Give the Gift of A Cappella This Holiday Season

Image

What’s better than the gift of song? OUR songs, that’s what. Yes, we are shamelessly promoting our new CD, Digital Redemption.  So if you are old-fashioned, consider purchasing a physical CD.  Or you can download the whole shebang or selected mp3’s from Amazon or iTunes. Hey, did you know that you can also Hire Venus to Sing for Your Favorite Holiday Event? Yup. We’re probably the only Washington DC area group who can say we’ve sung for Janet Reno AND Condoleeza Rice. These days, who can find such bi-partisanship? Again, shameless self-promotion. At our age, the gloves have come off. Well, figuratively anyway.

Venus Vines: Robin’s Favorite Sauv Blanc

Venus d Minor Altos Robin Sloan Kristin Bass

A summer wine review from Venus member Robin Sloan (on the left in blue in this lovely photo).

We’ve all heard about 2 Buck Chuck and given the state of the economy, we thought we’d try some.  Well it cost a little over 3 Bucks and it wasn’t very good and we had to cross the river to buy it.  However, during our discussion with the Trader Joe’s wine guy – he may have thought it was flirting, but it was merely a discussion about wine – we (I) discovered several tasty and very inexpensive wines.  Given that I prefer sauvignon blanc from the Marlboro region of New Zealand or some place in Chile, I focused my attention on sauvignon blanc. The wine guy’s favorite is Bay Moon, 2011 from Monterey, California.  Go figure!  At a mere $5.99 a bottle, I decided to take one for a test drive.  It passed with flying colors.  Very smooth and light, not too citrusy – although, I do enjoy the citrusy stuff.  He also suggested Vinas Chilenas Reserve, 2011 from Chile.  Very crisp, lots of citrus, and WAIT . . . is that $3.99 price tag for real????  The only thing that would make this wine better is a twist off top.  So there you have it, two great, inexpensive wines from Trader Joe’s.  Cheers! -Robin
